Andrea Grossi
Andrea Grossi was born in Monza in 1992.
Bassist, improviser, and composer, he has released records for various labels (We Insist!, Clean Feed, Red Records, Stradivarius, AUT, AMP, ParmaFrontiere, Felmay…), including four albums as a leader (Lubok, Four Winds, Songs and Poems, and AXES, produced by We Insist! Records).
He has always been interested in all types of avant-garde and experimental music, with particular attention to improvised music. In 2017, he founded his trio, Blend 3, with Manuel Caliumi on alto saxophone and Michele Bonifati on electric guitar.
He collaborates regularly as a sideman with various musicians, mainly in the field of contemporary jazz, but also in classical and contemporary music formations (Divertimento Ensemble and Ensemble ’05), as a chamber duo with pianist Gledis Gjuzi, and often engages with other artistic disciplines in performances with dance, photography, and video, particularly with choreographer Laura Matano and photographer Roberto Masotti.
In 2019, he won the Special Mention at the International Giorgio Gaslini Prize and with Blend 3, the I-Jazz “Nuova Generazione Jazz” grant, since then regularly appearing in the prestigious Top Jazz ranking of Musica Jazz magazine. Among other awards, he won the first prize at the I National Composition Competition for the images of the Cineteca di Bologna “il Cinema Ritrovato” in 2018.

He has performed at important festivals and theaters in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway.
He graduated in Jazz Double Bass (2017) and Jazz Composition (2022) under the guidance of Roberto Bonati at the Conservatorio “Arrigo Boito” in Parma. He also had the opportunity to study, among others, with Roberto Dani, Alberto Tacchini, Riccardo Luppi, Fabrizio Fanticini, and Riccardo Ceni; and has participated in numerous masterclasses, including those by Bruno Chevillon, Barre Phillips, Han Bennink, Misha Alperin, Franco D’Andrea, Arild Andersen, Bruno Tommaso, Gianluigi Trovesi, Sidsel Endresen, Marcus Miller, Tor Yttredal, Morten Halle, Federico Sanesi, and Giuseppe Ettorre.
