Filippo Monico

Filippo Monico (Milan, 1955), active since the early 70’s, when he collaborates with Guido Mazzon, Gaetano Liguori, Giorgio Gaslini, Massimo Urbani, Danilo Terenzi, Paolino Della Porta, Riccardo Luppi… he takes part in concerts and recordings with Enrico Rava, Paul Rutherford, Lester Bowie, Don Cherry, Steve Lacy, Evan Parker. … Then he is in Roberto Bellatalla’s “Muzic Circo” with Daniele Cavallanti and Edoardo Ricci. He works in Holland and England with Tristan Honsinger, Sean Bergin, Antonello Salis and Sandro Satta. He takes part in a series of concerts in Russia with the singer Sainko Namtchylak.

Founds, with Giancarlo Locatelli and Massimo Falascone, the group “Takla Makan” (among the guests: Fabrizio Spera, Tito Mangialajo Rantzer, Barre Phillips, Wolfgang Fuchs).

He collaborates in shows of Dance Theatre with choreographers Susanna Beltrami and Adriana Borriello and Theatre with directors Elio De Capitani, Antonello Cassinotti, Renzo Martinelli, Giorgio Barberio Corsetti and with the Teatro Filodrammatici in Milan.

In recent years he is dedicating himself to improvisation, both radical and jazz, often in dialogue with Dance, Painting, Poetry, Theater and Video: for example with the “Paolo Botti Quintet”, with Steve Piccolo’s “Hilarity Workshop”, with Biggie Vinkeloe’s “Unit” group, with Dimitri Grechi Espinoza’s “alternative trio”, with Mario Arcari and especially in performances with dancers Masaki Iwana, Roberto Castello, Julyen Hamilton, Giorgio Rossi and Alessandro Certini, with the musicians Peter Kowald, Elliot Sharp, Wilbert De Joode, Giovanni Falzone, Edoardo Marraffa and with the painters Sandro Fabbri and Ebbe Pettersson.    He leads the “Takla Jazz” and the multi-ethnic group “N.E.S.O.” (4 percussionists from Europe, Asia, Africa, America).    He has released about thirty LPs and CDs with different musical formations.

He is president of the Association “TAKLA IMPROVISING” born in 1998 for the diffusion of the art of improvisation and active in the organization of seminars, reflections, concerts, exhibitions and festivals for adults, youth and children.
