Gabriele Mitelli

Musician and artistic director, Gabriele Mitelli was born in Brescia in 1988. He studied with maestro Beppe Rusconi, and later continued his studies with Markus Stockhausen in Cologne, Germany. In 2017, he was named the best new Italian talent by the critics of the magazine “Musica Jazz,” and in the same year, he won the SIAE “Air” competition for artistic residencies abroad, which led to a collaboration with the Conservatory of Lisbon and the Italian Cultural Institute in the Portuguese capital. In a few years, he performed at some of the most important festivals/clubs in Europe, including Rewire Festival (NL), Audio Art (HR), Cafe Oto (UK), Summer Bummer (BE), Jazz Is Dead (IT), Porgy And Bess (A), Meteo Festival (FR), and Köler Jazz Haus (DE), alongside jazz and boundary music figures such as Mats Gustaffson, Mariam Rezaei, Lukas Koenig, Julien Desprez, Anna Högberg, Mette Rasmussen, Wayne Horovitz, Susanna Santos Silva, Elio Martusciello, Tobias Delius, Cristiano Calcagnile, Nino Locatelli, Jeff Parker, Chad Taylor, Ken Vandermark, Rob Mazurek, Damon Locks, John Edwards, Mark Sanders, Pasquale Mirra, Alexander Hawkins, Chris Speed, and Gianluca Petrella. He collaborates with Cristina Donà, one of the most appreciated singer-songwriters in the Pop genre. His first two albums, “Hymnus ad Nocturnum” and O.N.G. “Crash,” released by the record label of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, ranked among the best albums in the “European Jazz Chart.” Between 2019 and 2023, he released three new albums, reviewed worldwide, which reached the top positions in European charts: “The world behind the skin” and “Three Tsuru Origami” released by the WE INSIST! Records label, and “Star Gaze Night” in a duo with Rob Mazurek, produced by the Portuguese label Clean Feed. In parallel, since 2017, he has been the president of the cultural association Lampedée, for which he serves as artistic director for the Ground Music Festival and Indica events. In 2021, he created BAO, Brescia arts observatory, a multidisciplinary container that brings together many of the territorial associations working on musical experimentation and performing arts.
