On September 27, 2026, the Fondazione WE INSIST! is organizing a walk along the Naviglio della Martesana. Participants will be accompanied by local tour guide Marilena Criscuolo along an itinerary designed to highlight the cultural and natural beauties of the area. The walk will include stops at symbolic sites, such as ancient villas, mills, historic farmhouses, churches, and picturesque views of the Naviglio. At each stage, the local guide will share anecdotes and curiosities about the history and landscape of the Martesana. At the end of the walk, a solo concert by saxophonist Francesco Aroni Vigone will take place under the portico of Villa Greppi. The event will conclude with a tasting of typical local products offered by Bistrot 19.
The event has been made possible thanks to the support of the Municipality of Cernusco sul Naviglio, the Fondazione Cariplo as part of the project “Cammini d’ascolto: il valore dell’ensemble”, the Fondazione BCC Milano, and the collaboration of the Associazione I-Jazz , Ecomuseo Martesana APS, and Bistrot 19.

The pieces presented by Francesco Aroni Vigone are monodic chants, sound meditations associated with the movement of different walking paces and their rhythm. Essential compositions, traceable above all to an idea of repetition understood as a process through which sound, time, and listening are transformed. In some cases, the pieces start from short fragments, which become the jumping-off point for developments entrusted to improvisation. Repetition thus generates an open space, in which minimal variations, accents, and changes in intensity contribute to progressively modifying the perception of the musical material.
“It is the simple that is difficult to do”: with this quote from a poem by Bertolt Brecht begins Gennaro Fucile’s review, published in Musica Jazz, of Aroni Vigone’s CD Orbita. It continues: “Aroni Vigone seems to take the German poet’s verses literally, creating a performance of a disarming simplicity and beauty… Repetitions that feed the inner rhythm of the phrases and that are enriched by developing improvisations as delicate as the very structure of the individual compositions.”
It is precisely within this balance between simplicity and complexity, between structure and freedom, between repetition and improvisation, that the music of Francesco Aroni Vigone resides.
Francesco Aroni Vigone’s path began with the study of electronic music at the Conservatory of Turin with E. Zaffiri and then continued with the practice of the saxophone. His journey is characterized by research, experimentation, and interaction between composition and improvisation, as well as between different arts. He has participated in the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale, and numerous jazz festivals. In 1992, he won 1st prize for jazz orchestra composition in Sassari.
