TITO MANGIALAJO RANTZER To the study of double bass with Maestros F. Feruglio, G. Azzolini, F. Di Castri and W. Booker he added the deepening of the History of Jazz with Professors Marcello Piras (former professor at Michigan University) at the summer seminars of Siena Jazz, with Stefano Zenni, professor at the Conservatory of Bologna, in a course of High Specialization organized at Siena Jazz by the EU and with Maurizio Franco at Civici Corsi di Jazz in Milan. Also at the High Specialization Course organized by Siena Jazz and UE he attended a three-month course of ensemble music with Pietro Tonolo, one of the most important European jazz musicians. In 2014 he attended a three-day master class, organized by the Nuoro Jazz Festival, with the great double bass player Dave Holland. In 2016 he attended, for a week, a workshop on improvisation and solo performance with the great American double bassist Barre Phillips, a central figure of the musical avant-garde of the last 40 years. In addition to the collaboration with some of the most important Italian jazz musicians, over the years he has added recordings and concerts with great American jazz musicians such as Lester Bowie, Herb Robertson, Roswell Rudd, George Garzone, Brian Lynch, Joe Fonda…and Brazilians: Sergio Galvão, Hector “Costita” Bisignani, Manuel Grossi, Moacyr Luz…
Besides the most important italian jazz festivals (Clusone, Spoleto, Prato, Parma, Torino, Roccella Jonica, Udine…) he has performed in important european festivals: Copenhagen, Aarhus, Bergen, Molde, Braga, Porto, Edinburgh, Malta… and in many extra-european countries: Australia, Kenya, Gabon, Mozambique, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Japan, Brazil, Turkey, India… As a double bassist he is featured in about 100 CDs, including two under his own name: “From the bottom to the top”, solo, recorded in 2014, while 2016 is the CD “Dedictions”, recorded with a quartet under his name. He played in the soundtrack of Silvio Soldini’s films “Pane e Tulipani”, “Brucio nel vento”, “Agata e la tempesta”, “Giorni e Nuvole”; “Estomago” by Brazilian Marcos Jorge and “Il caso dell’infedele Klara” by Roberto Faenza, all with music by Giovanni Venosta. Since 2014 he has undertaken the teaching experience in AFAM, teaching Jazz Double Bass, Electric Bass, Jazz Ensemble Music and History of Jazz at the Conservatories of Brescia, Mantua, Pavia and Verona.
