COLAPESCE

“Colapesce” is an album that delves into the dark and mysterious depths of the Sicilian legend, reinterpreting it through a contemporary and experimental lens. Colapesce, the legendary man-fish who sacrifices himself to support Sicily, becomes a symbol of resilience, metamorphosis, and sacrifice. The album blends elements of free jazz, musique concrète, electronic music, and radical improvisation to evoke an underwater journey into the unknown, amidst sound waves and unfathomable abysses.

This work is a sonic exploration that transcends the boundaries between myth and reality, between the terrestrial world and the marine world, immersing the listener in a multisensory experience. The tracks are abstract reflections on different aspects of the legend: transformation, depth, darkness, and the inner struggle between sacrifice and redemption.

The album’s concept was born from the intense experience shared by the four musicians in Palermo, where they were invited by Curva Minore. The music was recorded during those days, and for Gabriele Mitelli, the legend of Colapesce echoes the significant sacrifice, struggle, and artistic and cultural resilience that his friend Lelio Giannetto, an artist and founder of Curva Minore who passed away prematurely in 2020, embodied for his beloved Sicily.
